Are you interested in paid business experience with a global publisher?

Become a Gale Ambassador and help raise awareness of the
fascinating digital archives available at your institution.

Gale is an international publisher of digital archives and other library resources such as eBooks.

Many students at your university remain unaware of the great digital resources available through your library.  This includes many of Gale’s primary source archives, such as –

(To see the Gale archives available at your university, search "Gale" in your library catalog.)

Applications have now closed for the 2023-24 cohort.

Applications will re-open in the coming year for the 2024-25 cohort.

In the meantime you can register your interest here to ensure you're notified as soon as possible, if applications open at your university. Plus, we sometimes have other opportunities and ways students can be involved with the various parts of a Publishing company; feel free to complete this form if you would be interested in being notified if any such opportunities arise.

The benefits of being a Gale Ambassador

Gale Ambassadors are paid $15/hour.* The core, required activities equate to roughly 60 hours, with opportunities to complete additional work. If you remain studying at your university, there may be the opportunity to renew your contract in the future.

Plus, the role is also great for your resume…

  • Business experience – work directly with a global publisher.
  • Have your work published on our company blog – great, shareable evidence of your work.
  • Run your own marketing activities – refine 'marketing copy' and images to make successful use of social media.
  • Public speaking – run presentations and training sessions with your fellow students, obtaining valuable public speaking skills.
  • Network – connect with more staff and students at your university, students in other countries, as well as numerous colleagues at Gale.
  • Market Research - understand product development processes.
  • Discover more primary sources for your own essays – potentially improving your grades!

The program is very flexible – activities can be completed at a time convenient to each student, so can be fitted around your existing schedule, university work and other responsibilities.

*Country dependent

What activities will you need to do?

The next cohort of the Gale Ambassador Library Support Program runs for the 2023-2024 academic year. You will be able to plan your time and complete the following activities at a time convenient to you:

  • Blog Post: Write 1 blog post (1,000 words) about an allocated topic. You will be a given deadline for your blog post.
  • Gale Social Media: Post 20 times on the Gale Ambassadors' Twitter channel about Gale's resources.
  • External Promotion: Post 15 times in locations which will be seen by students (e.g. Facebook groups / WhatsApp groups), informing students about Gale, encouraging students to follow Gale channels and/or promoting your Live Events.
  • Live Events: Run 6 events at your institution. You will have the freedom to choose the type of event you run, such as training sessions, mini lecture presentations or running a tabletop stand in the library foyer. (Don't worry, this isn't nearly as daunting as it sounds! Many of these events can be relatively small scale and can sometimes be run in partnership with Gale or library staff). Full training is provided.
  • Market Research: Run 1 peer interview, obtaining feedback about a student's use of the Gale resources (questions provided by Gale).

Additional Activities

Gale Ambassadors can also choose to complete additional activities (with additional payments), selected from a list of specified activities. It is not mandatory to complete any additional activities.

If understanding the Gale archives and ambassador activities seems daunting, don't worry! We offer all Gale Ambassadors comprehensive training.

Students will be given four 2-hour recorded training sessions. A live follow up session will be scheduled. Students need to watch and attend all training sessions.

As well as learning about the company, Gale's resources and the ambassador role, you will get the chance to e-meet various Gale colleagues and ambassadors at other universities.

We will also have a Check In Call in January – a chance for all ambassadors to reconnect and share ideas and advice. This will be held:

January 11, 2024, 10-11am EST

Training and the Check In Call are mandatory.

The application deadline will be updated when applications re-open for the 2024-25 cohort.

We really look forward to receiving your application! If you have any questions at all, please email Carly (with no obligation to apply): [email protected]
